I get a good kick out of people who take all of my articles to heart. In case anyone hasn’t noticed, this site is in no way connected to any school / board of education / official leaving cert resource etc..

It’s opinion based. Think of it as a tabloid version of skool.ie

The fact you guys are stumbling upon this site just highlights how few leaving cert resources there are online. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of sites who are willing to take your cash and give you out software, but blogs / forums / social networks - they are few and far between.

If you want to start up a blog or get your thoughts online, by all means do so… you can blog here if you wish (just me an email through the contact form) or you can set up a free blog of your own on wordpress.com / blogger.com

Or if you guys want to go the whole hog and buy your own domain, create something like i have done hear, feel free to get in touch and i’ll try and help

My reply to all the people who leave ‘this is wrong’, ‘you’re stupid’, ‘i could do better’ comments - put your money where you’re mouth is and do something constructive to ‘right’ my ‘wrongs’… create your own blog

SkoolCraic.com is a brand spanking new site set up to record all of those moments of madness we had in school.

Apparently, if they get enough stories, they’re gonna publish a book full of them and i have to admit, it would make for some excellent reading

The site itself is nice and glossy and simple, typical web 2.0 style.

It has some good stories on there already, but feel free to add more and provide us with more laughs

“On our sports day some of the 6th years were assigned to speak on the school intercom in the principles office for the day. This is so they could announce the scores of matches and fixtures of events. One guy got on who had been drinking with a few of the other guys around the back fields during the day. He got on and started to shout abuse at the teachers… the echos of this could be heard all over the school. Immediately following that, you could hear what sounded like the microphone being wrestled away from him.. then the principle got on and said “Ehh.. we’re having some slight problems. We’ll be right back *beep*”

The site is Irish owned and it’s a good thing too, as i think us Irish students and ex students probably have the best tales to tell due to our lax attitude and backwards way when it comes to education

Gealt

* Léim gealt ar bhus a sé a déag. Bhí éadaí codlata air agus shuigh sé in aice le fear a raibh mála aige.

* Choinnigh an fear greim daingean ar a mhála agus rug an mháthair greim daingean ar a páiste.

* D’fhéach an páiste ar an ngealt agus thosaigh an ghealt ag gáire.

* Ghlaoigh an tiománaí ar an mbrusáras ach toisc nach raibh an gealt i mbaol níor tháinig siadsan ná an bhriogáid dóiteáin.

* Ach tháinig na gardaí agus tháinig an t-arm agus dochtúirí le veist cheangail.

* Bhí na daoine ar an mbus trí chéile agus cuid acu déanach don obair.

* Chuir an dochtúir an veist cheangail ar an ngealt agus bhí áthas ar na daoine ar an mbus.

Faoiseamh a Gheobhadsa

* Ba mhaith leis an bhfile suaimhneas a fháil ar feadh tamaill bhig.

* Gheobhaidh sé an sos i measc a mhuintire féin.

* Beidh sé ag siúl cois trá agus beidh sé soar ansin ó bhuairt agus ó imní agus ó chaint ghéar.

Mo Ghile Mear

* Bíonn an file brónach gach lá mar gur theith Prionsa Searlas go dtí An Fhrainc.

* Deir an file gur laoch den scoth Prionsa Searlas agus níor chodail sé i gceart ó d’imigh sé.

* Níl áthas ar an gcuach ó shin agus tá na huaisle, na filí agus na daoine léannta cráite.

* Deir an file go bhfuil an nádúr (dúlra) I gcruachás agus go bhfuil stoirm mhór ann ó d’imigh Prionsa Searlas.

* Tá gach éinne go brónach agus níl na ceoiltóirí ag seinm ceoil ná na filí ag cumadh aon fhocal filíochta ó shin.

Jack

* Cuimhníonn sí ar an bhfear óg a raibh sí ag rince leis fadó.

* Fear óg, láidir, croíúil agus mac feirmeora ba ea é.

* Is cuimhin léi a lámha thart uirthi agus iad ag rince.

* Fágfar feirm aige, pósfaidh sé agus tógfaidh sé clan ach ní bheidh sé go deo arís mar a bhí sé an oíche sin.

* Guíonn sí rath agus aoibhneas air mar b’é a rogha pháirtí aici é an samhradh sin.

Níl Aon Ní

* Tá Cathal ó Searcaigh ag caint lena leannán faoina áit dhúchais I nDún na nGall.

* Iarrann sé uirthi teacht leis go dtí an áit álainn ina bhfuil sé.

* Deir sé léi go gcloisfeadh sí focail cheolmhar agus ceol bog taitneamhach dá dtiocfadh sí go dtí an áit sin.

* Ach b’fhearr léi fanacht I mbrúchtbhaile gránna.

Oíche Nollaig na mBan

* Chuir an stoirm an bás i gcuimhne don fhile.

* Deir an file go raibh an stoirm chomh huafásach sin go raibh sé cosúil. le rud éigin a bhí ag teacht amach as gealt-teach.

* Ba cosúil gur tháinig an stoirm ón saol osnádúrtha.

* Tháinig fearg air nuair a mhúch an stoirm a choinneal, mar nuair a bhí an choinneal ar lasadh bhí dóchas aige.

* B’fhearr leis dá dtiocfadh an stoirm nuair a bheadh sé ar leaba a bháis ionas nach gloisfeadh sé an bás ag teacht.

An Mháthair

* Seanbhean atá ag caint anseo agus tá fuinneamh na beatha inti fós.

* Cé go bhfuil ualach na mblianta anuas uirthi tá maorgacht ar Leith aici i gcónaí.

* Chomh maith leis sin tá sí meidhreach, gáireach agus álainn agus deir sí gur ‘triúr maighdean’ í i ngrá le ‘triúr óigfhear’.

Úirchill an Chreagáin

* Is aisling pholaitiúil fháthchiallach (allegorical) atá I bhfoirm comhrá an dán seo.

* Chuaigh an file a chodladh I gCill an Chreagáin agus brón air.

* Tháinig bean álainn (spearbhean) chuige agus iarrann sí air teacht léi go Tír na nÓg, áit a mbeidh áthas air arís.

* Níor theastaigh uaidh a bhean agus a chaired a fhágáil agus dúirt sí leis nach bhfuil meas ar bith ag éinne air mar fhile.

* Dúirt sí leis gur síog í agus go raibh sí ina cónaí i Móta, I gContae na hIarmhí.

* Dúirt an file léi go raibh a chroí briste agus dúirt sí leis go mbeadh sé níos fearr dá rachadh sé léi.

* Dúirt an file go mbeadh sé sásta dul léi ar choinníoll go gcuirfí I reilig an Chreagáin é.

Maigdiléana

* D’fheiceadh an file an bhean sráide (striapach) álainn go minic i Londain.

* Bhíodh sí ag déanamh a gnó ar na sráideanna.

* Chomh maith leis sin d’fheiceadh sé í ag ól tae I gcaifitéire, roimh dul abhaile di.

* Chuimhnigh an file ar Mháire Mhaighdiléana agus é ag féachaint ar an striapach.

An tOileán

* Tá an file ina chónaí ar oileán agus déanann sé maitheas di.

* Tá leannán an fhile ar an mórthír.

* Cé go bhfuil an t-oileán iargúlta tá sé fíor-álainn.

* Cé go bhfuil suaimhneas agus sonas aici ar a hoileán tá uaigneas uirthi gan a leannán, agus ba bhreá léi dá dtiocfadh sé chuici ar an oileán.

Dá mb’Fhéidir arís d’ár gCumann

* Bhí uaigneas ar an bhfile nuair a fuair a fear céile bás.

* Bhí a saol faoi scamall agus bhí sí gan dóchas, gan féinmheas.

* Bhí sí buartha ag tús an gheimhridh.

* Ach I bhfómhar na bliana chonaic sí an t-athfhás ag bláthú I ngach áit agus mhothaigh sí ath-fhás inti féin.

* Thosaigh sí ag caoineadh ach chuimhnigh sí ar a fear céile san uaidh agus mhothaigh sí gur mhaith léi bualadh le daoine arís.

An Chéad Dráma

* Comparáid idir drama ar stáitse agus an saol atá i gceist.

* Is é Dia a chum an drama agus thug sé pairt do gach duine den chine daonna.

* Is é Dia léiritheoir an drama agus pioc sé an diabhal mar leideoir chun leideanna a thabhairt do na haisteoirí.

* Tugann Dian a duaiseanna amach ag an deireadh agus faigheann an diabhal na haisteoirí a bhí go holc agus coinníonn Dian a daoine maithe.

* Tá deireadh leis an bpáirt a bhí aige féin (an file) mar tá a shaol beagnach thart.

* Drochshaol a bhí aige agus níl ach an bás i ndán dó.

* Tá sé ag súil nach mbeidh deireadh a shaoil ró-uaigneach.

* Dúirt an file nach mbeidh an dochtúir in ann é a shábháil agus tá súil aige go mbainfidh sé na Flaithis amach.

Dán do Mhelissa

* Bhí iníon an fhile, Melissa, ag rince cois farraige, nuair nach raibh ach cúig nó sé bliana slánaithe aici.

* Bhí an file ag féachaint uirthi le grá ina croí.

* Thug sí rudaí éagsúla le déanamh di agus bheadh sí sásta Gairdín Pharthais a thabhairt di, áit ina mbeadh chuile rud furasta agus cineálta.

* Dúirt an file nach mbeadh fadbh dá laghad aici sa domhan sin.

Irish for me was hit and miss. I had the vocabulary, the general tenses and I could listen…. But I just couldn’t think in Irish. I would always translate from English to Irish… always think in English first. That shows I wasn’t a fluent speaker, I couldn’t therefore ‘bluff’ Irish like I could perhaps most other subjects. If I didn’t understand a question – I was banjaxed. The listening and oral are usually easy, solid marks. They are the things you bank on.

What you have to learn…. (42%)
It’s not black and white as some people simply just have to learn everything off (even essays, oral work etc…), and pray to god it comes up but in general…..basically ALL of paper 2 is learning. Poetry, stories, drama’s, history… all of that stuff. Like I said, you can’t really bluff this if you don’t have the Irish; it requires cold, hard work. Also a good half of the oral is all about learning-off stuff… about yourself, location, family etc…

What you can bluff… (58%)
Although I say 58% can be bluffed, it can’t, unless you’re almost fluent in Irish. Having said that… you can’t really learn for the essay (17%), the reading comprehensions (12%), the listening (17%) and a good half of the oral (about 12%). Most of that lot requires natural brains and lingo, which most of us lack. Bluffing Irish, or any foreign language (not foreign, but you know what I mean) for that matter is very difficult if you don’t have the natural vocabulary.

Conclusion
Irish is one of the toughest subjects to bluff for most of us ‘English speaking people’. In order to bluff, you need to be able to write in a manner which suggests you know your stuff. It’s difficult to bluff in a language you’re not fluent in. Therefore I recommend Irish be given some serious ‘hard work’ time as it’s not a subject you can afford to bluff. Either that, or drop to Ordinary Level Irish in order to take some weight of your shoulders.

Common sense will be enough to pass and if you’ve done geography for the JC, it’s pretty similar at LC level, just a bit more detail and more focus on the human environment rather than the physical one. A lot of it is bluff work and common sense, however to obtain a high mark, a bit of detail and accuracy is needed.

What you have to learn….(~41%)
Short questions are mostly bluff work but i’d say 4% out of the 16% going for it requires some learning/work. Then you have choices which invites you to bluff! - You have to answer 3 longish questions (80mks each) from a choice of about 12 and finally - do an essay-type question (80mks). I’d say 50% or more of each question is bluff work. The geography project you have to hand up during the year is worth 20%, a good 15% is bluff work though. Overall, that totals roughly 41% learning.

What you can bluff… (~59%)
Firstly, you have the short questions which are basically bluff work and common sense and you’re only marked on 10 out of 12. That’s worth 16% overall, a good 12% is bluff work. As i’ve said above, you then answer 3 long questions and 1 essay question, all of which could be bluffed for 50% of the marks. The project is very bluffable too - about 15% of 20% could be bluffed. That gives us an overall total bluffing mark of 59%.

Conclusion:
The majority of Geography is bluff work/common sense. That said, don’t fall in to the trap of thinking it’s an easy A1 - it’s not. However it’s easy to pass with very little work. The project you hand up during the year also makes things easier as that’s 20% done and dusted and 20% less to worry about come June.
