You need to pass leaving cert maths

Some of you will love maths, some of you don’t mind it and will be pretty confident about passing leaving cert maths at the level you are taking it. Then there’s those of you that absolutely hate maths to the point were you just don’t wanna study it or take your leaving cert maths exam. You probably don’t see the point in maths and are wondering why you need all these x, y and z’s anyway!

A maths teacher that can teach

A recent report shows that 1 in 2 maths teachers aren’t qualified to teach you maths. With maths failure rates on the rise every year, most of you need all the help you can get in this subject…

Is your maths teacher qualified?

When you’re being taught about  a subject, you assume that your teacher is qualified to teach… you probably don’t even question their qualifications (i know i didn’t when i was at school). Surely that’s down to whoever hires them, whoever pays their wages and evaluates them.

Christmas Time!?!

So there’s only 3 more days of school until the christmas holidays – a time to relax, chill out and not have to worry about getting assignments in the following day… or as teachers see it, a two week break to give us an obscene amount of work to do so we dont go getting ourselves into trouble!

Back to basics

Back to basics

Today with the help of frenchgrinds.ie I decided to go back to basics. I feel that a lot of students haven’t maybe paid attention in class say back in first year and are flapping about since. In French, as I’m sure you must now by now, there are certain rules that seem to crop up everywhere and spoil the party for those in the dark….

Irish is an awful course

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of the Irish haters. I consider Irish to be an integral part of our heritage and I really believe it has a future in Irish society. However in order to achieve this bi-lingual society we need to teach a modern and relevant course.

Guide to Irish

Irish for me was hit and miss. I had the vocabulary, the general tenses and I could listen…. But I just couldn’t think in Irish. I would always translate from English to Irish… always think in English first. That shows I wasn’t a fluent speaker, I couldn’t therefore ‘bluff’ Irish like I could perhaps most other subjects. If I didn’t understand a question – I was banjaxed. The listening and oral are usually easy, solid marks. They are the things you bank on.
